When a Husband Opens His Heart: The Pearl of Communication

When a Husband Opens His Heart: The Pearl of Communication

By Jennifer Bess | Women to Christ

I want to encourage women, young adults, husbands, and wives to read Behold the Man — Manhood’s Covenant: The Groundwork Before You Own It and take the time to work through what they are reading.

As a man reads this book, chapter by chapter, the Lord can begin opening his understanding. He may begin seeing things he hadn’t understood before—things about himself, his responsibilities, his wife, his children, and even things he wishes he could have done differently.

But what makes this so meaningful is when he begins sharing those things with his wife.

As a husband and wife, being able to sit down and openly discuss what he is feeling and what the Lord is showing him is an awesome thing.

Sometimes those conversations are about the marriage. Sometimes they concern the children, how they were raised, or things you look back on and wish you could have handled differently.

Those are conversations worth having.

Why Read the Book Together?

Someone may ask, “What’s the difference between simply having a conversation and purchasing a book?”

For me, the difference is what can begin happening as the man reads.

As he reads, the Lord is able to minister to him. He begins to understand something that perhaps he had never considered. Then he opens up and shares that understanding with his wife.

The book becomes something they can talk about together.

It’s not simply purchasing a book, reading it, and putting it aside. It’s allowing what you’ve read to open the door to a conversation that may have been needed for a long time.

That is what makes this book a jewel.

A Woman Wants to Hear Her Husband’s Heart

Sometimes men don’t open up like they should, need to, or even want to.

They may not always talk about what they’re feeling or tell their wives what’s really on their hearts.

And sometimes, as a wife, you already know something is there. You may recognize that your husband is carrying something, but he hasn’t found the words to express it.

For a woman to finally hear her husband’s heartbeat concerning something she may have already recognized—that is precious.

That is the pearl.

It is not simply about having a conversation. It is about a husband becoming willing to share his heart and a wife being able to hear and understand him.

That kind of openness is a blessing to a marriage.

Prayer and Time Bring Change

I believe prayer and time can bring about change.

Sometimes we pray about things for a long time. We may desire better communication, greater understanding, or the opportunity to talk openly about matters that have remained unspoken.

And as the Lord works on the heart, understanding can begin to open.

I see Manhood’s Covenant as a blessing because it can help create opportunities for those conversations.

A husband reads. The Lord ministers to his understanding. He shares what he is learning. His wife listens. Together, they begin talking about matters that concern their marriage and family.

And those conversations may help them understand one another in ways they haven’t before.

An Encouragement to Women and Families

I encourage women to read this book for themselves and to encourage the men and young adults in their lives to read it as well.

There is something valuable in being able to sit together, discuss what you have read, and share what the Lord is helping you understand.

The blessing isn’t simply in owning the book.

The blessing is in what God can open our eyes to understand—and in the willingness to share that understanding with one another.

When a husband and wife can begin having those conversations openly, that is something to treasure.

To me, that is the pearl.

And that is why I believe this book is a blessing.
