Our Commitment to Scripture & Biblical Scholarship
Study deeply. Examine carefully. Teach clearly. Remain accountable. Point people to Jesus Christ.
The Scholar Must Remain a Disciple
We believe that faithful biblical teaching requires more than gathering information. It requires careful study, humility, accountability, and a continuing commitment to the truth of God's Word. Our aim is not merely to increase knowledge, but to help readers know Jesus Christ and follow Him faithfully.
“Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.” — 1 Timothy 4:16 (KJV)
Our Foundation
Scripture is the governing authority for Bess Covenant Publishing. Our teaching is rooted in the Apostolic faith and centered on Jesus Christ. Research, professional experience, and scholarly resources may assist our understanding, but they do not replace the biblical text.
Our Research Commitment
We seek to practice five disciplines in developing our books, Bible studies, and discipleship resources:
- Exegetical discipline: Understand Scripture in its immediate, literary, biblical, and historical context.
- Linguistic discipline: Use Greek and Hebrew resources responsibly, without forcing a word to support a preferred doctrinal conclusion.
- Theological discipline: Distinguish what Scripture explicitly states from interpretations, inferences, and doctrinal conclusions.
- Scholarly humility: Examine the assumptions of every interpreter, including our own, and remain willing to learn.
- Pastoral responsibility: Teach what can be substantiated, acknowledge genuine uncertainty, communicate clearly, and seek appropriate pastoral review before publication.
Our Accountability
We endeavor to evaluate our teaching against Scripture, check sources carefully, and review manuscripts with honesty and precision. Agreement with a scholar does not establish a conclusion by itself; neither does disagreement make a source useless. We distinguish linguistic and historical evidence from the theological interpretations built upon it.
Our Purpose
“For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” — 1 Corinthians 2:2 (KJV)
We must never allow the pursuit of scholarship to become a barrier between the reader and Jesus Christ. Depth of study should serve clarity of teaching, faithful discipleship, and obedience to God's Word.
The scholar must remain a disciple. We study not simply to know more, but to know and obey the Lord whom Scripture reveals.
